Lavarn Harvell rearranges the face of Tony Pietrantonio. Ouch! |
So this is how it’s like getting punched – hardly punched – in the face. We don’t have to climb into the ring and find out like what George Plimpton did, or this other crazy bloke. Not a good idea. And we’ve the picture. Totally not pretty.
They call it The Sweet Science, and it’s pretty sweet if you
get it completely – the clash of disciplines and pugilistic styles, the violence,
the lives of two boxers, the ensuing drama in the ring, the inevitable outcome,
Harry Greb, Muhammad Ali, Manny Pacquiao, the victory, the failure – nothing
more sweeter, bitter, uglier than boxing. There lies its beauty that has attracted
people like me to this violent sport.
The picture gives us an ugly face of boxing, but
none uglier than the corruption that plagues it.
